Co-President
samantha Wong
Hello, welcome to the Public Health Honor Society (PHHS)! My name is Samantha Wong and I am honored to serve as PHHS’s Co-President. I am a third-year majoring in PH and minoring in Nutrition and Food Science. I am excited to work with this semester’s board to bring exceptional academic and social events to PH students in our program and to our PHHS members. I joined PHHS in Spring 2023 hoping to build relationships and to learn more about the field of health. I plan to maintain the legacy and reputation of PHHS that previous board members have successfully upheld throughout the years.
Some additional information about me! I am also serving as Vice President and peer advisor of Public Health Peer Advising which is another organization in our program that supports students through their academic and career journey. I am currently interning with the Nourish Project which is part of Stanford School of Medicine and working as a physical therapy aide. My future career aspirations are to become a public health professional and/or a Physician Assistant. In my free time, I enjoy watching Asian dramas, going out to eat and shopping with friends, and traveling to new and wonderful places (my favorite places so far have to be Taiwan and Japan!). Some of my favorite foods include hot pot, matcha items, Korean tofu soup, and mangos. Looking forward to meeting everyone and doing my best to achieve our organization’s mission! |

MEMBERSHIP COORDINATOR
Taylor FieldsHi everyone! My name is Taylor Fields and I am a senior here at San Jose State, majoring in Public Health and minoring in Nutrition and Food Science. I transferred to SJSU from community college in Spring 2023 and have really enjoyed my time here so far. This is my second semester in PHHS. I joined as a way to be involved with the school and meet new people! I am excited to serve as the new Membership Coordinator for PHHS. My roles include keeping track of your service hours, events, COP completion, and other tasks. I am so excited to meet some new faces this semester!
Outside of PHHS, I am a Public Health Peer Advisor and I am currently interning for Goodwill GoodHealth as a health educator, which I have really enjoyed so far. In my free time, I enjoy reading rom-com books, spending time with friends and family, going to the gym, being outside, playing card games, and finding new shows to binge! I look forward to working with you all this semester! |
TREASURER
Joshua Soriano
Hello everyone! My name is Joshua Soriano and I will be the treasurer for PHHS this spring semester! I am a fourth year public health major with a minor in kinesiology. I decided to join PHHS as a way to open new doors for me to develop my professional skills while having the ability to connect and make new friendships. In PHHS, I believe I found a place where I belong. I recently completed my internship at Hope’s Corner which is located in Mountain View, CA where I provided community outreach programs for the community. It was a great experience and I enjoy assisting others.
A little bit about myself is that I like to listen and find new music to listen to. Some of my favorite artists are Martin Garrix, Lil Tjay, Kalan.frfr, and Shallou. I recently got into country music after years of disliking the genre. I am a fitness enthusiast and I enjoy working out. I try to workout at least 5 days out of the week and I also enjoy teaching others how to work out! Some of my favorite foods are pizza from pizza my heart, a 4x4 from In-n-Out, or black bean noodles! My favorite show to watch is the Peaky Blinders and my favorite movie is Monsters Inc.. I can’t wait to meet everyone and I hope everyone has a great spring semester! |
Event coordinator
Helen Thai
Hello everyone! My name is Helen Thai and I am the event coordinator for this semester. A little bit about myself, I’m currently a senior Public Health major with a minor in interdisciplinary studies. I joined PHHS in the Fall of 2023 as a way to connect with other fellow Public Health students that share similar interests. I am very excited to help plan out events for this club and hopefully make the best experience for everyone to enjoy.
I am also the treasurer of the Public Health Peer Advising club. I did my internship at the Santa Clara County Harm Reduction program. It’s a program that focuses on the vulnerable communities such as the unhoused population with overdose prevention and resources. I was part of the HonorsX program from 2022-2023 which focuses on sustainability and environmental issues. I am currently a research assistant for Dr. Dougan! In my free time, I like to read, draw, and play some games. I enjoy playing rpg and visual novel games the most. I find games with very compelling storylines super fun to play. I make a lot of digital art using Clip Studio Paint and Adobe Creative! I look forward to seeing you all this semester!!! |
