Every semester, PHHS members are required to complete a Community Outreach Project that benefits them and others. In the past, members have facilitated workshops for other students on the topics of self-care, mental health, exercise, nutrition, etc. They have also created LinkedIn profiles to network with other Public Health students and professionals.
In Spring 2022, members created packages to donate to SJSU Cares, Goodwill, Salvation Army, and more. Below are some testimonials from members about their experiences.
"I felt happy being able to give back to my community. It was amazing that my donation was able to support the Domestic Violence Solution INC. It means a lot to me because DVS has also supported immigrant DV survivors in our area. I hope to be able to do this again and maybe encourage my peers to do the same. Overall, it was a great experience and provided me the opportunity to become a part of our community's growth. " -PHHS Member
"I was very excited donating the clothes that I brought. I packed 7 bags of clothes and went to two different donation locations. When I pushed the bags into the donation boxes, I felt happy that I am able to help out the community. It was a great and fulfilling experience! This COP makes me want to donate and give more. I told my family about it and will definitely be donating more clothes in the future."- PHHS Member
"It felt great to donate to SJSU Cares! In the past I have volunteered for their food pantry but I have never donated anything to them before. At first, I had no clue that we were able to donate by purchasing items from the Spartan Food Pantry’s Amazon gift list until someone mentioned it in the meeting. I decided this would be the best way as I didn’t know what else I would donate to the Pantry. I selected two items; one hygiene and one food and made sure it was something students would use and need. Overall, I would recommend this method of donation to anyone; especially seniors who are short on time but want to help!"

"This was a very great experience. I never have seen the spartan food pantry, so it was really cool to see the place. Knowing that I am making an impact and helping my fellow students is very inspiring and encouraging. It was a very easy process. I just walked in with the bags and the person at the front desk was very sweet. I just placed my stuff on the counter and wrote my name and that was it. The pantry was so nice, and I would definitely do this again since the process was so quick and easy."
